Lake Athapapuskow, often called Lake Athapap, is a stunning northern gem in Manitoba known for its clear waters and rich fishing legacy. Spanning 267 square kilometers and reaching depths of 233 feet with over 1,100 islands, this lake’s rugged beauty is reflected in its name, derived from the Cree phrase meaning “rocks all around.” Its shores, carved out by the ancient Canadian Shield, provide a picturesque setting for outdoor enthusiasts.

World Record Fishing
Lake Athapap is a trophy angler’s paradise, with world-record catches to its name, including a legendary 63-pound lake trout caught in 1930 and an estimated 64 lb lake trout caught by our very own John Wolters in 2008.
Along with lake trout, northern pike, walleye, and burbot thrive in its waters, drawing fishing enthusiasts year-round. The lake’s three distinct sections—Big Athapap, Little Athapap, and the North Arm—offer diverse environments for fishing and exploration.

Historically, Lake Athapapuskow played a crucial role in the development of the mining town of Flin Flon, serving as a key transportation route for ore in the early 1900s. Today, it remains a haven for adventure, with activities like ice fishing and snowmobiling adding to its year-round appeal.
